An Andrews Labor Government will invest an additional $10.5 million into Melbourne’s North Innovation and Investment Fund, creating local jobs and helping retrenched workers.

Following the announcement that Ford Australia’s manufacturing operations at the Broadmeadows plant will close in 2016, local workers need a Government to work for them.

Labor’s plan to increase Melbourne’s North Innovation and Investment Fund to $35 million will create new job opportunities in Hume, Whittlesea, Moreland and Darebin.

Labor will act immediately to address the jobs crisis. We will help create 100,000 jobs across Victoria by investing in the industries of the future and encouraging companies to hire retrenched workers and unemployed youth.

When the Liberals came to office, the unemployment rate was 4.9 per cent. Today, it is 6.8 per cent. In the north west of Melbourne, youth unemployment stands at 12.1 per cent.

Announcing the funding, Shadow Minister for Employment Tim Pallas said ” The Liberals cut TAFE in the middle of a jobs crisis, making it so much harder for young people to get a job and retrenched workers to get new skills.”

“Denis Napthine will forever be remembered as the Premier who stood by and did nothing while the automotive industry collapsed.”

Welcoming the investment, Frank McGuire, Member for Broadmeadows said “Labor will get to work on day one, helping create 100,000 jobs, supporting retrenched workers and investing in the industries of the future.”
