A corrugating cardboard packaging company is boosting its operations and creating new jobs thanks to support provided by the Andrews Labor Government.

Member for Broadmeadows, Frank McGuire, today visited Abbe Corrugated Pty Ltd in Coolaroo to announce a $9.9 million Local Industry Fund for Transition grant to help the company expand its digital printing capabilities, consolidate its existing operations and take on 14 new workers.

“Thanks to our support, companies like Abbe Corrugated Pty Ltd are expanding, creating jobs and growing local economies”, Mr McGuire said.

As part of the $9.9 million project, the company is constructing a second building of similar size to the main building which will house the expanding digital printing packaging department.

The investment also includes a new digital display packaging line which will further enhance Abbe’s capabilities to react to retailers’ requests for multi-component displays shipped directly to stores.

Abbe is an Australian owned and operated independent corrugating cardboard packaging company headquartered in Coolaroo.  The company currently employs over 207 people.

Victorian manufacturing contributes $27.7 billion to the Victorian economy and is home to over 13,000 businesses employing more than 286,000 people.

To date, the Labor Government has committed $120 million in manufacturing support, which is creating over 6,000 jobs and driving new business investment.

The Local Industry Fund for Transition helps businesses generate new investment and create jobs for retrenched workers in areas affected by the closure of car manufacturing.

Mr McGuire said, “The Andrews Labor Government is proud to support communities such as Melbourne’s North that have been impacted by the closure of car manufacturing.”

The program has supported 43 projects that are expected to create more than 1,200 new jobs, over 970 of which are suitable for ex-auto workers.
