The Andrews Labor Government has announced the finalists in this year’s Victorian Premier’s Sustainability Awards.

Member for Broadmeadows, Frank McGuire, MP, today revealed Enable Social Enteprises in Broadmeadows was shortlisted for the awards, which recognise individuals, communities, organisations, governments and businesses across Victoria that are driving a sustainable future.

Expansion – Greener Futures Employability Program was the Enable Social Enterprises’ entry in the community category of the Premier’s Sustainability Awards.

The other categories of the award included built environment, education, environmental justice, environment protection, government, health, innovative products or services, large business and small and medium enterprises.

“These awards recognise those who are rolling up their sleeves to tackle waste and climate change at a local level”, Mr McGuire said.

Enable is a social enterprise in Melbourne’s north with a vision for a socially, environmentally and economically connected community without disadvantage.

Their mission is to break unemployment cycles by enabling disadvantaged job-seekers to connect with community and environment while improving prospects of gainful employment through supportive work and learning programs.  Enable’s employability skills programs include a strong focus on environmental skills.

During 2017, Enable created 1,741 paid work hours through an enterprise, supporting disadvantaged workers whilst diverting 53.2 tonnes of e-waste from landfill.

Winners will be announced at the Premier’s Sustainability Awards gala dinner at The Forum in Melbourne on Thursday, 11 October.

The Premier will also select two overall winners of the Premier’s Regional Recognition Award and the Premier’s Recognition Award, to be announced at the ceremony.

“All finalists should be proud of their hard work and I wish them the best of luck at the Premier’s Sustainability Awards in October”, Mr McGuire said.
