The Meadows To Celebrate Christmas In July:
Tuesday, 10 July 2018
Frank McGuire, State MP for Broadmeadows, reported that the Andrews Labor Government is helping The Meadows celebrate Christmas in July by supporting eight race meetings.
The Christmas in July racing series will be held over four Wednesday afternoons and four Saturday evenings. The series commenced last Wednesday, 4 July, and will culminate with the major event – the Maturity Classic Final – on Saturday, 28 July.
The Labor Government has provided more than $37,000 matched by the Melbourne Greyhound Racing Association.
The Christmas in July series provides entertainment for families looking for school holiday activities with jumping castles and fairy floss available at each race meeting.
Kids will also get the chance to visit Santa’s Workshop at the Maturity Classic Final, featuring Christmas crafts with Santa’s elves, face painting with characters from the children’s movie Frozen, and a snow machine. Ten lucky children will also be awarded with a free bike in a barrel draw competition.
“With plenty of action on and off the track, the Christmas in July series is a great way to spend a great day out with the family”, Mr McGuire said.
Since 2014, the Labor Government has provided almost $870,000 to support four infrastructure projects and 15 racing events for the Melbourne Greyhound Racing Association.
The racing industry in metropolitan Melbourne generates more than $1.5 billion for the Victorian economy annually and helps to sustain more than 13,590 full-time equivalent jobs.
