Turkish community joins global education push:
27th April 2011
Hume’s Turkish community is now officially linked to lifelong learning and inclusion opportunities.
The Consul-General of Turkey, Dr Aydin Nurhan, became a partner of the Global Learning Village on International Turkish Children’s Day last week.
The village brings businesses, governments and community groups together to create learning and community development opportunities. Its best-known achievement is the Hume Global Learning Centre, which delivered Broadmeadows’ first library. Broadmeadows state Labor MP, founder of the village, said it formalised the relationship between the Turkish government and the people of Broadmeadows.
“Broadmeadows has a proud history of making people from around the world feel at home,” he said. “Most people living in Broadmeadows were born in Australia or Turkey, so this relationship is especially important.”
Dr Nurhan said it would prepare Turkish children for a lifetime of opportunities.
